Sneed Homers as GSW Drops Two at No. 9 YHC

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. -- Playing four games in two days, the Georgia Southwestern softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 9 Young Harris College during Monday's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. GSW was upended 9-0 in five innings during Game 1 but only lost 4-1 during Game 2.

Freshman Chloe Sneed hit her first collegiate home run for the Lady Hurricanes during Game 2, scoring their only run.

Game 1: GSW 0, YHC 9 (five innings)

In what started out a close game, GSW was down 1-0 going into the top third. Kimmy Singer singled to start off the inning. Jacie Johns and Chloe Zoeller were deemed out at the next two at bats while Kayla Kerr and Zoe Willis both singled as GSW loaded the bases with two outs, inching to tie the score. Unfortunately, Ansley Duffey was unable to pick up a RBI as she lined out to close the inning.

YHC saw most of their runs in the bottom third inning, scoring six runs off three hits with one GSW error. The Mountain Lions added a pair of runs in the bottom fourth to extend the lead going into the top fifth. Kerr was able to get into scoring position after a single and pushed when Willis was walked but a fielder's choice closed the inning, ending Game 1 as YHC won 9-0. The Lady Hurricanes garnered up seven hits as Willis and Kerr both finished with two.

Game 2: GSW 1, YHC 4

YHC (24-7, 11-1 PBC) continued the scoring during Game 2, getting three runs in the first two innings to take an early 3-0 lead. Going scoreless for the third and fourth inning, Sneed started off the top fifth inning with a bomb into left center field to put GSW (12-12, 3-7 PBC) on the board for the first time today. The Lady Hurricanes were able to load the bases with two outs but a right field popup ended any hopes of scoring again.

A RBI double in the bottom fifth added another score for the Mountain Lions, who were seeking the complete sweep. Both teams closed out the game with zero hits as the Lady Hurricanes fell, 4-1.

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes will stay on the road to play Auburn-Montgomery in a midweek 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14.
