Softball Split Wins vs UNCP In Home Finale

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Goergia Southwestern softball team split wins this afternoon against UNC Pembroke during their last home game of the season. GSW opened the Lady Canes Field with a 4-0 win followed by a 5-2 lost.

Kayla Kerr finished Game 1 3-for-3 with a solo home run. Ansley Duffey hit her first collegiate home run in Game 1 to help GSW split wins. Shannon Gibson picked up the win from the circle while leaving the Braves scoreless. She had two strikeouts with one walk in 7.0 innings of work, leaving the Braves blank for the first time this season.

Game 1: GSW 4, UNCP 0

Kerr's bomb came in the bottom first at her first at-bat of the game to give GSW a 1-0 lead. Chloe Sneed started off the bottom second with a double to get on base. With two outs, Katelyn Wood hit a RBI single into the left center to plate Sneed for a 2-0 lead. In the bottom fifth with two outs and Kerr on base, Duffey's two-run home run doubled the score for the Lady Hurricanes. Gibson and the defense controlled the final two innings without letting the Braves get past second base for the 4-0 win.

Game 2: GSW 2, UNCP 5

GSW (14-14, 5-9 PBC) started Game 2 in the same fashion by scoring in the first inning. Jacie Johns started the game by being walked and then stole first base to get into scoring position. Zoe Willis then doubled down the right field line to plate Johns for an early 1-0 lead. The third inning is where the Braves got settled in, scoring all five runs. UNCP (21-9, 9-3 PBC) had four of their six hits in the top third. UNCP started with a sac RBI fly for their first run. With two outs, a two RBI triple followed by a two RBI home run pushed the score to 5-1.

The Lady Hurricanes went scoreless until the bottom seventh inning. Sneed started the inning with a double to put herself into scoring position. A bunt pushed Sneed to third base and she scored when Wood grounded out to second base. Unfortunately, Gibson was retired as GSW split wins with UNCP.

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes will be on the road for the remainder of the season as they will play West Georgia on Wednesday, April 21.
