Errors By GSW Leads to Midweek Sweep

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team hit the road for a midweek doubleheader and returned back with a pair of losses against West Georgia by scores of 6-1 and 7-0 Wednesday evening.

Katelyn Wood and Zoe Willis led the Lady Hurricanes, both hitting doubles while Kayla Kerr picked up the sole RBI at University Softball Field.

Game 1: GSW 1, UWG 6

Both teams started out even throughout the first three innings but West Georgia changed things in the bottom fourth. UWG took the lead, scoring three runs off four hits in the bottom fourth. Wood started off the top fifth with a double into left field to push her into scoring position. With two outs, Jacie Johns singled up the middle to push Wood to third. Wood was plated as Kerr picked up a RBI on an error to make the score 3-1.

UWG opened the bottom fifth with a home run to up the score as Hannah Holloway came in to relief for Shannon Gibson, who started in the circle. Unfortunately, a Lady Hurricane error helped the Wolves push the score to 6-1. Neither team could get into scoring position to finish the game as UWG took game one of the doubleheader.

Game 2: GSW 0, UWG 7

Game 2 started in similar fashion as both teams went scoreless in the first two innings. UWG (22-11) scored two runs in the third and four runs in the fifth inning for the midweek sweep. Willis led GSW (14-16) with two of the six hits, one being a double in the top third.
