Lady Hurricanes Picked Fifth in PBC Preseason Poll

AUGUSTA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has released the 2022 softball preseason coaches poll and preseason All-Conference team. For the seventh year in a row, North Georgia is the top selection in the preseason coaches poll with three Nighthawks named to the preseason team.

North Georgia received all seven first-place votes available to them for a maximum 56 points in the coaches poll. Columbus State and Young Harris were tied for second place with 46 points each with Flagler in fourth and Georgia Southwestern in fifth. Augusta, Georgia College, Lander and USC Aiken rounded out the voting.

North Georgia seeks to continue their historic run of success in the Peach Belt. The Nighthawks have won seven straight PBC regular-season championships and seven straight PBC Tournament titles, both the longest such streaks in PBC history. For 2022, UNG will have to contend with the loss of six All-Conference graduates and return a roster with no seniors and two juniors. However, the Nighthawks bring back half of their starting lineup, including two All-Conference performers.

Young Harris reached the PBC Tournament championship game for the first time in program history in 2021. The 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional Champions, the Mountain Lions will also have to adjust to the loss of five All-Conference starters from last year but do return two All-Conference bats to the lineup and their top two starting pitchers in ERA.

Columbus State finished among the top three in the conference standings for the third year in a row and are poised to make a charge at their first PBC regular-season title since 2007. The Cougars bring back their entire starting lineup from last season's 30-14 squad along with their top starting pitcher.

The coaches poll is below followed by the preseason All-Conference team. Coaches were not permitted to rank their own teams in the poll or vote for their own players.
