Softball Splits With Second-Ranked Valdosta State

AMERICUS, Ga. -- After a tough loss in Game One of Wednesday night's double-header the Georgia Southwestern softball team defeated second-ranked Valdosta State Blazers. In Game One Valdosta State junior pitcher Samantha Richards (6-1), this week's GSC pitcher of the week, tossed a complete game for the Blazers and picked up five strikeouts. Lacey Rutledge for the Lady Canes had two of GSW's three hits. The Blazers used the long ball and cruised to a Game One victory.

In Game Two the Lady Canes answered the bell and used the long ball to take a 4-0 lead over the Blazers. Hannah Holloway came into the circle and dominated the Valdosta State lineup for the first six innings of the game. The sophomore pitcher out of Pine Island, Fl. ran into a bit of trouble in the final inning but a pop up to right field finished the Blazers chances for a comeback and gave the Lady Canes their first won over the Blazers in school history.
