Lady Canes Sweep Emmanuel in Two Close Games

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern softball team defeated Emmanuel College (Ga.) in two games on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Canes made comebacks in each game winning Game 1 in eight innings after climbing their way back from a 8-4 deficit after a disastrous fourth inning ended with the Lady Canes giving up six runs in the inning. GSW answered in the botttom half scoring three of their own to cut the deficit by one. In the botttom of the fifth the Lady Canes tacked on the tying run via a Jacie Johns RBI, both teams held their ground for the next three innings until Isabel Marcotte laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring Jacie Johns home for the walk off win.

In Game 2 Emmanuel (Ga.) jumped out to a three run lead looking for a split and taking the regular season series 2-1 overall. The Lady Canes fought back once again scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in both the fifth and sixth inning, shutting down the Emmanuel bats for the rest of the game and getting the two run win and sweeping Emmanuel in Saturday's double header.

The Lady Canes will play Fort Valley State at home Wednesday after intermitent weather cancelled the double-header versus Clark-Atlanta University on the road.
