Strong Offense Continues in Sweep of Augusta, Bradford Earns Two Wins

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball completed a three-game sweep against Augusta University Saturday afternoon at Lady Hurricanes Stadium.

Game 1 W, 7-4  

Zoe Willis continues her strong season as she gets two in four at-bats, with a home run and an RBI. Willis was one of two lady Canes to record multiple hits. Kimmy Singer also went 2-for-4 and added an RBI.

Ansley Duffey was responsible for four Hurricanes runs hitting a grand slam in the third inning that gave the Canes the lead. 

Savanna Bradford earned her sixth win of the season pitching four innings allowing no earned runs and striking out four batters.

Game 2  W, 5-4 

Georgia Southwestern wins a nail bitter in game two of the doubleheader as they defeat Augusta 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

Both teams got the scoring going early when Augusta scored two runs in the top of the second inning. GSW scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning when Isabel Marcotte hit a 2-run home run to center field. Marcotte has hit a home run in three of her last four games.

GSW scored two more runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead Augusta answered back in the fourth inning scoring two runs to tie the game at four. 

The game remained tied at four until the bottom of the sixth when Natalia Herrera entered the game as a pinch hitter to earn a clutch single for the canes with bases loaded Kimmy Singer hit a sac bunt to bring the runner home giving GSW the lead going into the seventh inning. Savanna Bradford closed out the game for the Canes as they would go on to win and earn the sweep over Augusta.

GSW will stay home to face off against Flagler College for a three-game weekend series first pitch at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
