DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball was defeated by the University of North Georgia in a pitchers duel 2-1.

Game 1 L, 2-1

This game was a pitchers' duel North Georgia scored both of their runs in the third inning on a rbi triple and a wild pitch. 

GSW managed one hit in the game the only run came on a UNG error that scored Lacey Rutledege from second base. 

Despite the little offense, Savanna Bradford pitched great she hurled six innings giving up two runs on three hits and earned her first loss of the season falling to a record of 9-1.

This was a tough matchup for the Canes who gave UNG more than they could handle and had them on the ropes the Canes will be a tough out for anybody in the Peach Belt Conference.

Game 2 L, 13-5

Georgia Southwestern State softball scored five runs on top-seeded UNG but the Nighthawks scored a lucky 13 to defeat the Canes.

The game started with two GSW runs from Marcotte and Duffey that gave the Canes an early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first. 

The Nighthawks answered back scoring two runs of their own on three hits after only one inning of play the game was tied 2-2. 

The second inning started the same way GSW added two more runs to take a 4-3 lead.

Marcotte hit two home runs in the game and had three for the day grabbing four RBIs on the day. UNG answered back again in the second inning they scored three runs to retake the lead and would go on to win the game 13-5.

Bradford gets her second straight loss and will fall to 9-3 on the season.

The Hurricanes will stay in Dahlonega, Ga. to complete the three-game series at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium 2:00 p.m. on Sunday
