AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball got back in the win column as they defeated Fort Valley State University 8-0.

Game 1 W, 8-0

The Canes scored early in the first inning on a rbi ground out from Katelyn Wood. GSW would did not trail at any point of the game and would add seven more runs in the shutout.

Zoe Willis had a great game pitching and as a batter she went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and an rbi. Willis pitched all five innings struck out 11 batters and nearly had a no-hitter that was broken in the final inning.

GSW as a team stole nine bases on Fort Valley State collected 11 hits and scored eight runs winning the first game of the doubleheader.

Zoe Willis earns her ninth win of the season she improves to 9-2 on the year.

Game 2 W, 3-2

Georgia Southwestern State softball again scored early in the first inning on a Katelyn Wood rbi double.

The Canes got into trouble in the third inning Fort Valley State hit a two run home run out to centerfield that gave the Wildcats the lead. The momentum would not last for the Cats GSW scored two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and retook the lead 3-2 going into the top of the fourth inning.

After the third inning the game became a pitchers duel with no scoring from either team the Canes held on to win 3-2.

Zoe Willis performed well again she had a hit in her only at bat and walked twice. She came in to the game in relief of Holloway and tossed four and two-thirds scoreless innings to earn her 10th win of the season

The Hurricanes will stay home to take on Young Harris College in a three game weekend series this will be Alumni Weekend the first game gets underway 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Lady Canes Field
