Three Marcotte Moon Shots not enough as Canes Fall to #10 Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball ended their eight game winning streak by getting swept in a two game doubleheader series to #10 ranked Valdosta State Tuesday afternoon.

Game 1 L, 6-4

Valdosta State got their offense started early in the first inning as they hit two home runs, collected four hits, and scored four runs that gave the Blazers the early 4-0 lead.

GSW answered back in the top of the second inning on a Izzy Marcotte two-run home run cutting Valdosta State's lead to two runs. 

Valdosta State shook off the homer by scoring on a two run double giving back a four run lead for the Blazers.

GSW didnt go away scored two runs in the sixth inning on another Izzy Marcotte two run home run cutting the Blazers lead back to two runs.

The Blazers would close out the game in the seventh inning and go on to earn the 6-4 victory over GSW.

Izzy Marcotte had a great game going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Hannah Holloway earned her fourth loss of the season tossed six innings gave up nine hits and six runs and falls to 3-4 on the season.

Game 2 L, 5-2

Similar to the first game Valdosta State scored four runs on four hits and homered in the first three innings of the game.  

Izzy Marcotte hit a 2-run home run in the fourth inning that gave GSW their only score of the game falling 5-2 to Valdosta State.

The usually consistent pitcher Savanna Bradford struggled going two and a third innings gave up four runs, and two home runs falling to 13-4 on the season.

GSW will travel to Rome, Ga to face off against PBC rival Georgia College and State (23-14, 9-9) 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Peeler Complex.
