Not All Good Things Come in Threes

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern softball was swept by Peach Belt Conference rival No. 24 Columbus State Wednesday night.

Game 1 L, 9-4

GSW could not get their offense going in the early stages of the game falling behind 6-0 early in the first inning.

The Hurricanes finally scored in the third inning on a Hailey Pinette solo home run to cut the Cougar lead to five runs.

In the third inning, Columbus State hit a solo home run to extend their lead back to six runs.

GSW would not give up. Izzy Marcotte hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give GSW momentum. Two batters later Ansley Duffey hit a solo shot to cut into the Cougar lead to 7-4.

The Cougars scored two more runs to close the game defeating GSW 9-4. 

Pitcher Zoe Willis struggled, never getting out of the first inning she gave up two hits and two walks and four runs.

Savanna Bradford pitched in relief throwing six innings allowing seven hits and four earned runs and falls to 13-6 on the season.

Game 2 L, 7-6

Similar to the opener, Columbus State scored first on a three-run home run to the Cougars the early lead.

The Hurricanes answered back and took the lead in the top of the fourth scoring four runs on three hits one being a Zoe Willis two-run single giving GSW the 4-3 lead.

The Cougars answered back on a two-run single to give retake the lead. 

GSW scored two more runs and had the lead going into the final inning until Hannah Holloway gave up back-to-back home runs that won the game for the Cougars.

GSW looks to get back into the win column as they travel to Greenwood, S.C. to face off against Lander University (24-13, 13-8 PBC) for a three-game weekend series that starts Saturday at 1 p.m.
