GREENWOOD, SC. -- Georgia Southwestern softball split a doubleheader over Peach Belt Conference rival Lander University.

Game 1 L, 3-1

GSW had a rough game offensively they were unable to score until the sixth inning when Hailey Pinette hit a solo home run.

The rest of the Hurricanes only managed three hits for the game Izzy Marcotte and Natalia Herrera earned the other two hits for the Canes falling to Lander 3-1.

GSW pitching played well despite the loss Savanna Bradford pitched six innings and surrendered only for hits but gave up three runs falling to 13-7 on the season.

Game 2 W, 6-1

The antithesis of game one GSW came out swinging Lacey Rutlege got the offense into gear singling, followed by an Izzy Marcotte single, which was followed by a Zoe Willis RBI single, to finish the inning Katelyn Wood hit a sacrifice bunt to bring Marcotte home that the Canes the early 2-0 lead.

GSW's offense was quiet until the fourth inning the Canes added two more runs on back-to-back homeruns from Katelyn Wood and Ansley Duffey Lander scored in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single.

The Hurricanes added two more runs on Zoe Willis solo homerun, and a fielders choice RBI from Hailey Pinette as the Canes closed out the game with a 6-1 victory.

Hannah Holloway had her best pitching performance of the season going the full seven innings and giving up just five hits and one run improving her record to 4-5.

GSW will stay in Greenwood to complete the final game of the series Sunday afternoon from Doug Spears Field.
