AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern State University softball team swept a midweek doubleheader over Albany State University on Tuesday afternoon at Lady Canes Field.

Game 1 W, 9-1

Albany State scored first on an RBI single that gave them the early 1-0 lead which was the only time the Rams led in the game.

The game was a pitchers duel until the bottom of the fifth when the Hurricanes found their offense that started with a Morgan Mullin single and ended with a grand slam from Natalia Herrera who recorded her first home run of the season after the grand slam the Canes led 7-1 going into the sixth inning.

GSW ended the game on back-to-back homeruns from Zoe Willis, and Katelyn Wood 

GSW ended the game with 13 hits as five Hurricanes players recorded multiple hits defeating Albany State in the first game of the doubleheader.

Zoe Willis had her usual outstanding pitching performance pithed the full six innings gave up five hits and surrendered just one run.

Game 2 W, 10-2

In game two GSW scored early and often the scoring started with a two run double from Katelyn Wood that gave the Canes the early lead GSW never looked back.

GSW scored in every inning and nearly had a shutout until Albany State hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning.

The Hurricanes would hold on to win 10-2 and sweep Albany State.

Nearly every Hurricanes player recorded at least one hit in the game Katelyn Wood Shined went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Starting Pitcher Savanna Bradford got back into the win column improving her record to 14-7 on the season Bradford pitched a complete game giving up 11 hits and two earned runs.

The Lady Canes will stay home to complete their final home series of the season against PBC foe USC Aiken for Senior Day starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
