AMERICUS, Ga. -- – The Georgia Southwestern softball team second basemen Zoe Willis was named All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) this will be the second consecutive season Willis has been named to this award she was named second team All-Region last season.
Willis had one of the greatest seasons any PBC player has ever had. A junior second baseman and pitcher from Pine Mountain, Ga., hit .447 with 25 home runs and 67 RBIs.
Her 25 home runs is the highest single-season total in Peach Belt Conference history Willis finished in the top five in five different NCAA hitting categories including finishing atop of the NCAA in home runs.
Her best game came against USC Aiken on April 23rd, when she went 2-3 from the plate hitting two home runs and seven RBIs.
Named the PBC Player of the Week twice she has five multi-homer games this season and eight games with three or more RBIs.
She led the Peach Belt in two different hitting categories home runs (25), and total bases (151) and finished in the top three in three others.
In the circle she finished 14-3 with a 2.54 ERA in 104.2 innings of work with 99 strikeouts.
Last season, she became the first Hurricane to ever be named the PBC Player of the Year and is the first GSW player to be awarded the accolade in consecutive seasons.
Willis stellar season continued during the PBC Tournament she put up impressive numbers going 4-for-9 hit two home runs recorded five RBIs and was walked five times over the three game span.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted on the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2023 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
Conference players and pitchers of the year from member institutions (must be nominated by member head coach and receive votes) are added to the second team if they were not already voted to an All-Region squad.
The 2023 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 24 at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Chattanooga, Tenn.
