Former Lady Hurricane Joins Softball Coaching Staff

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern State University has named Katelyn Wood as its new assistant softball coach. Wood will also serve as GSW's head women's cross country coach.

Wood is coming off a decorated collegiate career at GSW (2020-23) where she ranks near the top of multiple categories in the program record book. This past spring, Wood delivered a program-best 77 hits while finishing with a personal-best .438 batting average. She ranks second all-time for GSW in career runs batted in (175), career hits (197), total bases in a career (342), career batting average (.376) and career assists (269) while playing defense at third base. 

Wood is a two-time Peach Belt All-Conference selection (2022, 2023), a two-time honoree on the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction, a PBC Player of the Week on March, 27, 2023, and a 2022 National Fastpitch Coaches Association and D2CCA All-Southeast Region selection.

A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Wood intends to help GSW continue to build upon its recent success. The program is coming off consecutive 30-plus win seasons and its most successful campaign in school history during the NCAA era with 39 overall wins in 2023, including a 21-1 mark at home, and 19 victories in the PBC.
