AMERICUS, Ga. - Balanced offensive production and an athletic defensive attack proved to be too much for Georgia Southwestern as fourth-ranked Clayton State overwhelmed the Lady 'Canes Saturday evening in the Storm Dome, 73-51.
An undefeated Clayton State (6-0) team finished with four players in double figures, led by guard Drameka Griggs' 16 points, as a dominate first half carried them to victory.
The Lakers' led 40-17 at the end of the first half thanks in part to a defense that caused 16 first half Lady 'Cane turnovers.
CLSU used a noticable height advantage to dominate on the boards the entire night, outrebounding GSW 47-31.
Laker forwards Shannon Smith and Kayla Mobley proved to be double-trouble as they led the rebounding attack.Smith finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mobley finished with 10 rebounds as well for Clayton State.
Jasmine McSwain and Shaniece Sheffield led the Lady Hurricanes with 14 points a piece.
GSW's offense came alive after halftime as the Blue and Gold outscored Clayton State, 34-33, in the second half.
Georgia Southwestern falls to 1-7 (0-2 PBC) on the season.
After a two week Holiday break, the Southwestern will be back in action Monday, Dec. 31, as they take on Point University in the Storm Dome.
