AMERICUS - A balanced Hurricane offensive attack led Georgia Southwestern to their first Peach Belt Conference win of the season as the Blue and Gold posted a season high 97 points on the afternoon as they outlasted conference newcomer Young Harris, 97-89, in the Storm Dome.

In the first half, freshman forward Jasmine McSwain posted 10 points and team newcomer Kayla Dayton (transfer) and returner Briana Walker (injury) combined for 16 points, eight a piece, as the Lady 'Canes scored a season high first half points as the two teams took a 39-39 tie going into the locker room.

In the second half, the guard trio of Shaniece Sheffield, Danisha Green and Stormey Smith combined for 44 points as the Lady 'Canes came out firing.

Sheffield proved to be the catalsyt as the junior combo guard poured in 20 second half points on scorching 7 of 10 shooting.

A Sheffield layup at the 15:37 mark gave GSW the lead for good at 50-49. 

A 11-1 GSW run shortly after stretched the GSW lead to 68-57 and the Lady 'Canes made their free throws down the stretch to put away the Mountain Lions, 97-89.

Five Lady 'Canes finished in double figures led by Sheffield who finished with a career-best 20 points.

GSW point guard Stormey Smith also notched a career-high as she finished with 17 points, 12 in the second half, and six assists.

Guard Danisha Green continued the trend as her 16 points, 12 in the second half, was also a personal best.

Freshman forward Jasmine McSwain coupled her 10 first half points with a pair of well-timed three pointers in the second to finish with 16 points on the afternoon.

Walker's return from injury proved successful as the senior forward finished with a career best-tying 15 points to round out the five Lady Cane double digit scorers.

The 97 points was the most a GSW team scored since December 4, 2011, when the Hurricanes posted 101 points in a 101-57 victory against Montevallo.

Southwestern finished the game shooting a season-best 50 percent from the field (32-64) including a season-most 12 three pointers.

YHC forward Ladondra Johnson scored a game-best 21 points and nine rebounds to lead five Mountain Lions in double figures.

Guard Lauren Smith posted 12 points and six assists.

Georgia Southwestern improves to 3-7, 1-3 in the PBC, while Young Harris falls to 7-3 (1-2 PBC).

Southwestern returns to the court next Saturday, Jan. 12, as they travel to Francis Marion for a 1:30 p.m. tip.
