First Half Run Buries GSW, Lady 'Canes Fall 71-42

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Lady Hurricanes hung tight with the North Georgia Saints Thursday evening in Memorial Hall but a game deciding North Georgia run to close the first half broke the game open as the Saints went on to breeze past Georgia Southwestern, 71-42.

A Briana Walker layup brought Southwestern to within a poin, 23-21, with six minutes remaining in the first half, but that's the closest the Blue & Gold got as North Georgia's Mimi Hill simply took over the game.

The 6-foot-3 forward simply dominated the rest of the half as she scored 12 out of the Saints' next 19 points as North Georgia went on a dominating 19-3 run to take a commanding 42-25 advantage heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady 'Canes couldn't find the shooting touch as GSW shot only 14 percent (5-of-35) and succumbed to the Saints, dropping their record to 3-14 (1-9, PBC).

North Georgia improved to 7-9, 5-4 PBC as the Saints shot a blistering 52 percent (31-of-59) from the field for the game and outrebounded the smaller Lady 'Canes, 51-29.

Jasmine McSwain led Southwestern with nine points and five rebounds as no GSW player finished in double figures.

Danisha Green finished the evening with eight points and three steals for the Lady 'Canes.

Hill finished as the game's high scorer as she led the Saints with 24 points and eight rebounds.
Fellow Saint forward Jaymee Carnes finished with a double-double on the night with 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Georgia Southwestern returns to the court Saturday as they travel to Columbus St. for the final stop of their four-game road trip. The contest is set for a 1:30 p.m. tip.
