Lady 'Canes Falls To Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. -Junior Shanedra Lockett posted her second double-double of the season by scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a losing effort as Clayton State defeated Georgia Southwestern, 71-59, on Saturday afternoon in Clayton State's Athletics Center.

Tiara Thompson started GSW scoring by contributing in four of the first five scoring plays for the Lady 'Canes. However, Clayton State was working a little faster than the Lady 'Canes. Lockett made two layups and a free throw in 9:32 to bring Clayton States lead from 15 down to a managable 10 points.

During the first half, Locket was 3-for-4 from the free throw line and scored 11 of her points. Lockett also grabbed 8 of her rebounds in this half. Thompson was the next leading scorer for the Lady 'Canes with 8 points. Danisha Green contributed 2 free throws and field goals.

Clayton State had a rough start to the second half. The Lakers went about six minutes without scoring, from minute 16:23 to 10:24. The Lady 'Canes took advantage of the scoring hiatus by Clayton State. At 9:36, Jasmine McSwain tied the score with two made free throws. Thompson's jump shot at 8:50, was the only lead GSW held during the course of the game. After which Clayton State started to play again. By 1:36, Clayton State held their largest lead of 24 points. Green finished the game with two made free throws, making the final score 65-87.

McSwain did her best scoring in the second half, as she was 2-for-2 from the free throw line and connected 2 from beyond the arc. McSwain also grabbed 3 rebounds. Hudson contributed 7 buckets, grabbed 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

McSwain tied her game high of 14 points, from Nov. 14 against Truett-McConnell. Lockett achieved her second-best season high game for rebounding with 12. On Nov. 26 against Paine College, Lockett grabbed 13 rebounds.

 

Clayton State recorded one double-doubles for Andrea Benford along with double-figure scoring from Kiana Morton, Shacamra Jackson, Yishica sims, and Tiayra Green.

The Lady Hurricanes are now 4-4, 0-2 PBC this season. Clayton State improves to 5-1, 1-0 PBC.

Southwestern is still on the road on Monday, Dec. 16 playing Converse College at 2:00 p.m.
