Lady 'Canes Follow Their Heart To The Basket In Win Over Francis Marion 75-63

FLORENCE, SC- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team (12-11 , 6-10 PBC) outpaced the Francis Marion Patriots (8-17 , 5-11 PBC) 75-63 to take the win Saturday night in the Smith University Center.

Tiara Thompson lead the Lady 'Canes with twenty four points followed by Danisha Green with twelve points and Kabrina Merriweather with ten. Shanedra Lockett  picked up ten rebounds and had seven points. GSW shot 39.3% in the first half and picked it up in the second shooting 48.4%.

Thompson scored the first basket of the game to give GSW the lead and Yvonna Dunkley put in a 3-pointer to take a three point lead. With 13:43 on the clock GSW was down by one but came back when Lockett put in a jump shot and free throw, followed by Ja'Quasha Sesler with a jump shot and Merriweather put in a lay up to put the Lady 'Canes up by six. With 3:59 to go Merriweather put in a 3-pointer to give GSW a seven point advantage. Dunkley put in another 3-pointer with fifty-seven seconds to go to give the Lady 'Canes a six point lead going into the second with a score of 30-24.

Green started the second half with a 3-pointer and Thompson put in a lay up to take an eleven point lead. Thompson put in another lay up and a free throw to take the lead by thirteen points. Sesler added a jump shot followed by Thompson with a 3-pointer to take an eighteen point lead with 13:59 to go. The Lady 'Canes never allowed Francis Marrion to catch up, always having a ten point or more lead. In the end the Lady 'Canes scored forty five points in the second half and took the win by twelve points, 75-63.

GSW out shot Francis Marion 44.1% to 34.4% and out rebounded them 42-36. GSW's largest lead was 19 points.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Wednesday for Senior Night/ Pink Night to host Young Harris College at 5:30 p.m. in the Storm Dome.
