Lady 'Canes Finish Season WIth A Winning Record (14-12) After A Win Over North Georgia 77-75

DAHLONEGA, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team won 77-75 Wednesday evening against North Georgia (20-8, 12-7 PBC) in Memorial Hall. This win gave the Lady 'Canes a final record of 14-12 overall and 8-11 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Seniors Tiara Thompson and Shanedra Lockett both lead GSW with 25 points a piece and Lockett lead the team with 7 rebounds.

The Lady 'Canes took the lead from North Georgia five minutes into the first when Thompson put in a 3-pointer giving them a two point lead, which the Nighthawks were able to tie up with the next basket. Yvonna Dunkley took the lead back with lay up followed by Thompson and Lockett with lay ups to take a six point lead with 13:25 left. North Georgia caught up with five free throws in a row to trail by one. The rest of the first half was a one or two point gap between the two teams but the Lady 'Canes were able to keep the lead going into halftime with a score of 34-31 thanks to two final lay ups by Lockett.

The second half proved to be closer and tougher then the first with both teams picking up the momentum. North Georgia scored 44 points in the second, putting up thirteen more points then what they did in the first. The Lady 'Canes had 43 points, which was nine more points then the first. With 1:12 left on the clock the game was tied 75-75. With fifteen seconds left Dunkley put in the final basket for the two point win, 77-75.

The lead changed nine times and the game was tied seven times. The Lady 'Canes out shot North Georgia 50% to 42.3% but were out rebounded by the Nighthawks 45-25.
