Lady 'Canes On Fire With Fourth Straight Win

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team is now 4-0 in the season after beating the undefeated Southeastern University Fire who are now 4-1.

Jasmine McSwain put GSW on the board first with a jump shot and Southeastern responded with a 3-pointer to take a one point lead. The Lady 'Canes tied it up  but Southeastern took the lead back and GSW fell behind by four points with three minutes to go in the first.

Ja'Quasha Sesler stole the ball and put in a layup to put GSW behind by two and Va'Queshia Hall made a layup with seven seconds left to tie the game 20-20 after the first quarter.

The Lady 'Canes took the lead in the second quarter after McSwain made a 3-pointer to lead by one and Yvonna Dunkley made a lay up to take a three point lead. Dunkley and McSwain both made 3-pointers and Sesler made 2 jump shots and a 3-pointer consecutively to take a ten point advantage with 3:31 to go. GSW led 40-31 at the half.

What started as a close game ended with a 88-63 win for the Lady 'Canes.

Dunkley had 18 points and nine rebounds, Sesler also had 18 points with three assists and three rebounds. Emily Russ had 14 points, 6 rebounds and two assists. Aleah Holden recorded eight rebounds for GSW and Hall had four blocks.

The Lady 'Canes are off until December 1st when they play Coastal Georgia in the Storm Dome at 5:30 p.m.
