FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The women's basketball team is now 5-1 after losing 85-72 Saturday to Emmanuel (6-2) in the Williamson Basketball Arena.

Emmanuel took control of the game early leading 10-0 until Ja'Quasha Sesler put in a 3-pointer to fall by seven at the 7:41 mark.

Emmanuel went on another point bender making three more baskets before GSW made a free throw and two layups to trail by 10 with 4:37 left in the first quarter.

GSW made three more free throws and a layup in the first quarter to fall by 11 heading into the second quarter. Emmanuel scored 24 points in the first compared to GSW's 13.

The Lady 'Canes found a better groove in the second quarter but still struggled to close the gap on Emmanuel's lead and went into half time down 43-31.

The third quarter looked promising for the Lady 'Canes as they matched Emmanuel in speed and points. Both teams scored 22 points in the third starting with a layup from Yvonna Dunkley.

The Lion's made a 3-pointer and GSW responded with two made free throws from Jasmine McSwain followed by a jump shot from Va'Queshia Hall to cut Emmanuel's advantage to 9.

With 1:32 left in the third quarter the Lady 'Canes were within five points of the lead after two free throws from Emili Russ and a 3-pointer from McSwain.

Emmanuel made six free throws and a jump shot to head into the fourth up by 12.

The Lady 'Canes kept up their fight in the fourth, only scoring one less point than the Lions but their first quarter fall sentenced them into an 85-72 loss.

GSW scored 13 points in the first, 18 in the second, 22 in the third and 19 in the fourth.

Sesler led the Lady 'Canes with 17 points and four rebounds, McSwain had 14 points, Hall and Dunkley both had 10 points and Owens recorded seven rebounds.

The Lady 'Canes are on the road on Monday to play Fort Valley at 6 p.m.
