Dunkley Get Double Double In Overtime Loss

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- A late comeback in the final seconds of the game forced an overtime for the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team (6-5, 0-3 PBC) Monday night against Georgia College (12-1, 4-0 PBC) in Centennial Center.

The first quarter was basket for basket for the most part. Georgia College put in the first basket and Yvonna Dunkley tied it quickly. Aleah Holden took the lead for GSW with two made free throws and moments later Georgia College tied it and then took the lead.

With 3:16 left in the first quarter the Bobcats made a 3-pointer to lead 14-8. Khayla Owens answered back with a layup followed by a 3-pointer from Kenyona Armstrong to end the first quarter behind 14-13.

Emili Russ put GSW ahead by one with a jump shot and Georgia College countered with a layup, a 3-pointer and another layup.

With 5:27 left in the second quarter the Bobcats were leading 24-17 after they put in a 3-pointer. Whitney Young made a 3-pointer for the Lady 'Canes followed by a layup from Ja'Quasha Sesler to fall by only two.

Georgia College put in another 3-pointer and a layup to take a seven point advantage with 3:42 left in the second quarter. Va'Queshia Hall made a free throw and the Bobcats made two free throws, a jump shot and a layup lead by 12 with 1:22 remaining.

Hall put in a jumpshot and a layup followed by Dunkley with a layup to close the gap by six and head into halftime down 35-29.

The third quarter was low scoring with the Lady 'Canes putting up 11 points and the Bobcats only having 10.

Georgia College looked to be in control in the last quarter with the Lady 'Canes falling behind by 10 with 5:17 left, but GSW found a rhythm and came back.

Dunkley made a jump shot and a 3-pointer followed by Holden with a free throw to trail by four. The Bobcats made two free throws to take a six point lead and Armstrong made a 3-pointer along with Holden with a jump shot and Dunkley with two free throws to take a one point lead with 33 seconds left.

The Bobcats made a free throw to tie the game 56-56 and force an overtime.

Georgia College made three free throws to take the lead and GSW took it back with a layup from Chanice Whitton and two free throws from Dunkley.

The Bobcats were able to put in a layup and a free throw to take the win, 62-60.

Dunkley led GSW with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Hall had 12 points with five rebounds.

The Lady 'Canes out-rebounded the Bobcats 48-29 and out shot them 41.5% to 35.9%.

GSW is back on the road Wednesday to play Columbus at 5:30 p.m.
