Whitton Double-Doubles In Loss To No.6 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga.- Chanice Whitton recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball 81-56 loss to the 6th-ranked Columbus State Cougars on Wednesday night.

GSW finished the season 13-13 overall and 8-11 in the Peach Belt Conference. Columbus State improved to 25-1 overall, 18-1 PBC.

Columbus State out-scored GSW 30-3 in the first quarter to take a huge lead early on.

The Lady 'Canes picked it up in the second quarter putting up 13 points but Columbus went on a nine-point run halfway through the quarter to record 18 points and lead 48-16 heading into halftime.

GSW came out stronger in the second half even going on three six-point runs in the third quarter to out-score Columbus State 25-17. Whitton went 4-for-4 on the free throw line and scored two more baskets to record eight points in the third quarter. Va'Queshia Hall went 3-for-4 including a 3-pointer to score seven points. The Lady 'Canes headed into the final quarter down 65-41.

The fourth quarter was a tight one with Columbus Statw only out-scoring GSW by one point. The Lady 'Canes went on an eight-point run in the middle of the quarter to cut the lead to 21. Whitton made two free throws, Aleah Holden put in two free throws and Whitton finished it up with a jump shot and two more free throws.

Columbus State finished the game with a six-point run and Khayla Owens put in a jump shot in the last 15 seconds to fall by 25 points.

Whitton recorded her 12th game scoring in double digits and third double-double of the season. Hall scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
