PEMBROKE, N.C. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team was on a four game winning streak headed into today's contest against UNC Pembroke. Instead of continuing the streak, GSW struggled to score as that led them to a 94-73 loss to the Braves Monday afternoon inside Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. 

UNCP ended their two game losing streak while shooting 60 percent from the field against the GSW.

How It Happend: GSW took an initial 3-2 lead as Brianna Perry got things clicking for the Lady Canes early, however, the Braves stayed playing and they retook the lead. Midway through the first quarter, GSW tied the game at 10 points and watched the Braves breakout with a 8-0 run afterwards to be up 18-10 with 3:11 left in the quarter. The Lady Canes answered with an 11-4 run to go into the second quarter down by one possession, 22-21. 

Lele Young dropped two free throws that gave GSW the lead back but that didn't last long. The Braves scurried to find open shots where they settled in and ran up the score. The Lady Canes defense held, causing a few turnovers and was able to score on the other end to tie the game at 35 with 4:21 remaining in the half. Both teams exchanged three-pointers but GSW couldn't get the edge with a lot of missed shots - UNCP took the 43-39 halftime lead.

More cold shooting in the third quarter changed a lot of things for the Lady Canes (8-7, 5-4 PBC) who couldn't keep up as the Braves started to break away. A three-pointer by Madison Johnson closed the scoring gap to four points (50-46) but the Braves answered with a three-pointer and made shots to go up by 11 points, 57-46, at the media timeout. UNCP continued to capitalize on GSW's missed shots and went into the final quarter up, 66-54.

UNCP hit a 20-point lead with 4:11 left in the game (82-62) and still continued to push the score. The Braves scored over 20 points in each quarter and had a 28-point fourth quarter to seal their win. GSW defeated UNCP during their first game but was out performed this afternoon.

It was a rough day for the Lady Canes, who finished shooting 35 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc. A hot UNCP shot 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc as they had, at one time, a 25-point lead over GSW. 

Who Stood Out: Lex Chatman led off the bench with 16 points and six rebounds, followed by Mariya Trimble, who had nine points. Young, Kya Cochran and Johnson all finished with seven points each. 

UNCP's (5-10, 4-5 PBC) Tee Graham and Aliyah Farmer each put up 20 points, with Graham getting a double-double with 10 assists and seven rebounds.
