Lady Canes Wrap Up Season vs. No. 22 UNG

AMERICUS, Ga. -- Head Coach Kelly Britsky ended her stint with the Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team with an upsetting loss against No. 22 University of North Georgia inside the Storm Dome on Homecoming night. Although four Lady Canes scored in double-digit figures, the Lady Canes fell 86-60 to first place UNG Saturday night.

Mariya Trimble was one rebound shy of getting her fifth double-double of the season as she ended with 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

How It Happend: GSW took a 3-2 lead after Tyra Smith converted a free throw early in the first quarter and afterwards, the Nighthawks took over. They started with a 9-3 run to go up by five points before the first media timeout. UNG eventually took a 24-11 lead going into the second quarter.

Trimble scored eight of her 11 points in the second quarter as both teams scored 18 points to end the first half. Brianna Perry and Jamesha Samuel both connected on a pair of three's within the second quarter as Trimble also pulled down three offensive rebounds.

GSW didn't get all the calls they were looking forward to tonight, as they only went to the foul line five times while draining three of them. UNG, on the other hand, converted 22-of-29 from the line. UNG turned the ball over 15 times as GSW had six steals on the night but they took over inside, scoring 56 points in the paint.

Who Stood Out: Morgan Towells led the way with 15 points, four rebounds and two steals followed by Samuel, who had 11 bench points. Perry finsihed with 10 points and was 50 percent from behind the arc.

Vanessa Agrusa led the Nighthawks with 18 points and 12 rebounds followed by Amber Skidgel, who finished with 17 points.

The Lady Canes ended their season 8-20, 5-17 in Peach Belt Conference play - matching their wins in both season and PBC play from their 2017 season.
