Augusta Outlast Lady Hurricanes in PBC Opener

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Two Georgia Southwestern women's basketball players finished with a double-double as the Lady Hurricanes failed to make a comeback and came up short, 60-56, to Augusta University inside Christianberry Fieldhouse Thursday evening.

Lex Chatman finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Mariya Trimble finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds as GSW opened up Peach Belt Conference play with a loss.

How It Happened: GSW got off to a huge 11-4 start behind Chatman's five points and one steal which led to the first media timeout of the game. Afterwards, Augusta went on a 6-2 run to cut the lead down as GSW led going into the second quarter, 13-9.

Two minutes into the second quarter, a layup by Crystal Corley tied the game at 15 as Augusta continued to press and force missed shots. The Jaguars went on a 17-0 run behind Corley and Kennedi Manning as they took a 25-15 lead with one minute remaining. Trimble's layup closed the gap to 10 points as Dominique Jeffery drained one from deep to cut the lead to seven points, 45-38, in the opening minute of the final quarter. Augusta's (4-5, 1-0 PBC) Harrison quickly returned the favor with a three of her own to extend the lead by to 10 points as Manning extended it before GSW was able to score again.
