Chatman Scores Career-High 27 Points in Loss

MORROW, Ga. -- Georgia Southwestern women's basketball player Lex Chatman scored a career-high 27 points as the Lady Hurricanes fell 84-65 on the road at Clayton St. in a Peach Belt Conference game Wednesday evening. 

Chatman scored the first 10 points of the game, ending with 20 first half points while going 10-of-19 from the field. Clayton St. led with 50 bench points for the win.  

How It Happened: GSW (4-3, 2-2 PBC) started the game with five turnovers as that saw Clayton St. take a 10-0 lead. With 6:58 left in the opening quarter, Chatman was finally able to get GSW on the board. Chatman then scored back-to-back three's followed by a quick jump shot to score all of the Lady Hurricanes 10 points as they trailed 15-10 with 4:30 remaining. As both teams exchanged scores, a three by Jaleah Storr closed the game to three points, 22-19, going into the second quarter.  

A'Aliyah Clay opened up the second quarter with a quick layup as the Lady Hurricanes were only down by one point, 22-21, but the Lakers quickly responded with a 7-0 run before another three by Chatman ended it. Midway through the second quarter, Clayton St. (4-1, 4-1 PBC) took a 10-point lead, 33-23, but the Lady Hurricanes continued to fight back. The Lakers were able to take a 12-point lead but the Lady Hurricanes closed the gap to 39-30 going into halftime. 

After scoring to start the third quarter, Clayton St. erupted on a 15-0 run that pushed them to a 20-point lead, 54-34, with 3:59 remaining in the third. After trading scores, the Lakers eventually took their biggest lead of the night, 26 points, to end the third quarter, 65-39. A 11-3 run by the Lady Hurricanes saw them chop the score down to 68-48 three minutes into the fourth quarter but that didn't last. The Lakers quickly controlled the double-digit lead as they won 84-65. 

Clayton St. controlled the entire game as they never trailed. They outscored GSW's bench 50-22 while also controlling the 36-27 rebound battle. The Lady Hurricanes were on the ladder end of things with 22 turnovers tonight compared to the Lakers 17. GSW went 20-of-50 from the field, shooting 40 percent while Clayton St. went 30-of-65 for 65.2 percent.

Who Stood Out: Storr came off the bench with 17 points and three steals followed by Kayla Grant and Clay, who both finished with six points while Clay added four rebounds. 

Timi'a Swanson led the Lakers with 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench followed by Audrey McElhaney, who finished with 19 points and nine rebounds. Kevanika Brown and Jadah Waithe finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
