Craig Scores 20 As GSW Caps Season in PBC Semifinals

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Daelyn Craig led the No. 4 seed Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team with 20 points as they fell, 72-52, to the No. 1 seed and No. 2 ranked Lander during the Peach Belt Conference semifinals Wednesday evening in Fenis Horne Arena.

GSW finished the season 9-6 with a 7-4 conference record in the shortened season. This was the first time that GSW competed in the PBC Tournament in school history. GSW seven conference wins matched their conference wins from the 2019-20 season. Craig's 20 points was a career-high for her as she played 31 minutes on the night.

How It Happened: It was a slow start for the Lady Hurricanes. After two turnovers, Kayla Grant tied the game at 2-2 just two minutes into the opening quarter. Two quick scores by the Bearcats was halted when Lex Chatman cut the score down to 6-4. Jaleah Storr then went to the line to try to tie the game again but only drained 1-of-2 free throws. Lander then went on a 17-0 scoring run right into the second quarter as they took a 22-5 lead.

GSW scored a combined total of 13 points throughout the first two quarters while Lander bosted to a 35-13 halftime lead. GSW showed up during the second half, outscoring Lander in both quarters but they couldn't escape the double-digit deficit. Shortly after Lander took their biggest lead of the night, 39-13, a three by Chatman with 3:38 left in the third quarter cut Lander's lead to 17 points, 46-29. PBC champions Lander continued their dominance on both sides of the court throughout the final 10 minutes, maintaining a double-digit lead.

The Lady Hurricanes finished 20-for-61 from the line, shooting 32.8 percent while Lander went 26-for-54 for 48.1 percent. Although both teams drained three from long range, GSW led 21.4 percent to Lander's 15.8 percent. GSW forced 23 turnovers, including 13 steals as they led in that category but Lander led with a 40-33 rebound advantage.

Who Stood Out: Craig led with 20 points, four rebounds and two steals while Chatman finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Grant added eight points while Yasmin Perez and Storr finished with seven points as Perez had a team-high four steals.

Lander was led by Zamiyah Passmore, who finished with 24 points. Makaila Cange finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Bearcats.
