Lady Canes Dominate Opening Knight

AMERICUS, Ga. — The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team defeated the Middle Georgia State Lady Knights by 50 points on Monday evening. The Lady Canes dominated from tip-off until the final whistle and opened the Storm Dome with their third win of the year, Middle Georgia State after the loss falls to 3-1 on the season. The Lady Canes never trailed and their largest lead of the night was 54 points.

The defense got the Lady Canes rolling in the first half holding the Knights to 11 and 12 points, respectively in the first and second quarter. GSW did their damage from beyond the arc tying the program record for most made in a single game. The second half was much of the same as the Hurricanes dominated the boards with a team total of 67 rebounds 25 of those offensive and turning that into 21 second-chance points total.

11 different Hurricanes scored overall with Kayla Langley leading the team in points with 17 and rebounds with 13, Ava Jones and Alyssa Nieves followed with 15 points each.

The Lady Canes will look to continue their hot start on the road Saturday against Albany State at 7:00 P.M.
