AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team lost to seventh-ranked Lander University on Saturday afternoon. The game was a battle with both teams showcasing their physicality. The Lady Canes led by three at the half, with both teams even throughout. The second half was a struggle for the Lady Canes, GSW had multiple players in foul trouble with five different Lady Canes with four or more fouls and two players that fouled out.
Lander shot 14 free throws in the third quarter alone, while GSW was only able to get to the line twice making two of four on those trips. The fourth and final quarter was closer but much of the same as Lander was able to get to the line eight times shooting 10-16 while the Lady Canes shot just eight free throws going 7-8.
Rebounding troubled GSW getting outrebounded 57 to 43 in the game. Jolicia Williams led the team in the loss, making six shots from three and finishing the game with a team high 18 points.
GSW will look to bounce back quickly hosting Young Harris College on Monday night in the Storm Dome.
