Saints Have No Prayer, Lady Canes Win by 29 Over Flagler

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Georgia Southwestern women's basketball team defeated Flagler College on Wednesday night for their 20th win of the season. The win and a North Georgia loss on Wednesday put Georgia Southwestern in first place and gave the Lady Canes a half-game lead in the Peach Belt standings with just four games to go.

The opening quarter was a dominant performance by the Lady Canes, who started the game on a 10-0 run and kept their foot on the gas stretching it out to a 19-4 lead before ending the first quarter with a 20-6 lead. GSW did not stop there increasing the 14 point halftime lead to 20 points heading into the break. Scoring was spread out evenly between the starting five with the Lady Canes having 8 assists and forcing 6 steals against a team with one of the best assists to turnover ratios in the Peach Belt.

In the second half, the Lady Canes continued their inspired play. Jacquelyn Levay and Jolicia Williams went on a run from behind the arc making 4-5 from beyond the arc. GSW opened up a 28 point lead at the end of the third and finally let up cruising to a 29 point win over Flagler College.

The Lady Canes ended their four-game homestand with four wins and zero losses with close wins over #3 North Georgia and Clayton State, who defeated now #8 North Georgia on Wednesday night. The four-game stretch also included dominant double-digit wins over Augusta and Flagler and the Lady Canes will have one more regular-season home game next Wednesday when they host Columbus State. GSW women's basketball is recieving votes in the top 25 poll for the first time in program history and will look to crack the top 25 with four games left, including a road game against #6 Lander University.
