Lady Canes Can't Overcome Setbacks in PBC Loss

AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Lady Canes struggled on Wednesday night missing two-time Peach Belt Player of the Week in Ava Jones. The Lady Canes fell to Clayton State on Wednesday night in a back and forth physical battle. The Lady Canes struggled to take advantage of points off turnovers scoring only eight points while forcing 20 turnovers. Clayton State forced just 4 more turnovers than GSW but scored 20 more points off of turnovers.

The struggles were rooted in the Lady Canes missing three different guards at certain points of the game. Jolicia Williams, the leading scorer, went out for a few minutes after a collision at halfcourt, on the same play Yasmin Perez had to leave for the remainder of the game after another collision on the baseline. The physical play and untimely injuries were unfortunate and the Lady Canes couldn't overcome those two setbacks while already missing a key piece in Ava Jones.

Despite their struggles, the Lady Canes battled and stayed in the game throughout. The Lakers were able to get to the line often in the fourth quarter after both teams were denied very many opportunities from the line for much of the night. GSW had 16 free throw attempts for the game and the Lakers were able to get to the line 17 times in just the fourth quarter.

The Lady Canes will await their fate to see if they will be selected for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. The Selection Show will be on Sunday at 10:00 pm ET on NCAA.com.
