Hurricanes End Losing Streak in Win at Flagler

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla.– Georgia Southwestern women's basketball had its losing streak snapped at two games with a 66-55 win at Flagler College Wednesday night. 

The Hurricanes were trailing at the end of the first quarter but a strong second quarter gave the Canes the lead and they never looked back.

Ava Jones had a big game for the Hurricanes as she recorded her first 20-point game of the season, scoring 21 points, and grabbing six rebounds. Jones was one of two Lady Hurricanes to finish in double figures in scoring, along with Kayla Langley who put up 13 points and grabbed eight boards. 

GSW improves to 18-4 on the season and improves to (10-3) in Peach Belt Conference Play. The Lady Hurricanes maintain a two-game lead atop the standings after Wednesday's contests.  

Inside the Storm

  • GSW held the lead for 23 minutes during the game 
  • GSW gained the lead with 2:49 to go in the second quarter after a Kayla Langley Layup
  • Flagler outscored GSW in the first quarter 19-12
  • GSW only attempted two 3-point shots for the game
  • Jones has scored in double figures in eight straight games.

Georgia Southwestern will return home to take on Georgia College  (13-10, 5-8 PBC) for the second half of their two-game season series. The Hurricanes defeated the Bobcats 72-48 in the Centennial Center the teams will tip off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday
