How Sweet it is; Canes Upset Second Seeded Wingate

SALISBURY, N.C.– The Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball team dominated in the second round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and will advance to the Sweet 16 after defeating Wingate University, 81-64, Saturday afternoon at Catawba College.

GSW got off to a slow start they trailed at the end of the first quarter 19-9 and only shot 33 percent from the field. The Hurricanes took the game over after the first quarter outscoring Wingate 72-45 in the remaining three quarters.

Ava Jones led the way with a season-high 31 points adding four rebounds and four assists and shot 58 percent from the field. Jones was one of three lady Hurricanes players to score in double figures including Jacquelyn Levay scored 17 points had five boards and four steals she shot 60 percent from the field and 75 percent on her three-point shots. points and Kayla Langley scored 10 points two rebounds and one block she shot 60 percent from the field.
