Magical Season Comes to an End in NCAA Sweet 16

SALISBURY, N.C.– The Georgia Southwestern State University women's basketball teams season came to an end as they were defeated by Catawba College Monday night.

GSW battled throughout the game and had an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter but a fourth-quarter surge from Catawba moves them into the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division II national tournament.

Ava Jones led the way scoring 18 points grabbing five boards and adding four assists. Jones was one of two lady Hurricanes players to score in double figures including Kayla Langley who scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Jones and Langley were named to the Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team along with Sara McIntosh, Janiya Downs and Most Outstanding Player Lyrik Thorne from Catawba.

  • Catawba outscored GSW 24-6 in the fourth quarter.
  • The Hurricanes largest lead was 13 points in the fourth quarter 25-12
  • Catawba outshot GSW 47.2-42.6
  • GSW had 26 wins most in school history

GSW's record breaking season comes to an end finishing 26-7 (13-5) in PBC play the Canes finished with two players named to PBC honors and are looking to repeat as PBC Champions next season.
