Late charge unfruitful in 1-0 loss

AMERICUS - Despite controlling the ball for the final 15 minutes of the second half, the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team was unable to convert any scoring opportunities and dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Palm Beach Atlantic University on Monday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Neither team was able to get much going offensively throughout the game as the two sides combined for a total of 11 shots, with four being on goal.

After a scoreless opening half, Palm Beach Atlantic (3-3) posted the lone goal of the match in the 51st minute when Andrea Jefferson gathered a deflection in the right corner of the box and knocked a left-footed shot inside the far post for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Hurricanes made things interesting at the end, applying offensive pressure until the final horn, but shots by Ally Canganelli (blocked) and Courtney Simpson (high) were unsuccessful and GSW was defeated in the first meeting between the two schools.

Southwestern (1-3) continues its six-match homestand on Friday when West Georgia comes to town for a 5 p.m. match.
