GSW Drops 3-0 Decision In Home Opener

AMERICUS - A pair of early goals propelled the Limestone College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Gabriella Reid took a corner kick from teammate Helen Winterburn in the 17th minute and poked a shot over GSW goalkeeper Amber Bahri to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage.

Less than a minute later Limestone (1-1) struck again when Taylor Sanders found the back of the net off a feed from Reid.

GSW (1-1) had an opportunity to cut the margin in half in the 24th minute but a shot by Amber Milner hit the crossbar, allowing Limestone to take the two-goal lead into the break.

The Lady Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on several open looks throughout the scoring lull as a pair of shots sailed high and two more drifted left before Sanders struck again at the 79:37 mark and capped the game's scoring with her second goal of the afternoon. The final tally came off a pass from Leah Kennington. Sanders went up top again, taking the pass in the middle of the box before lifting it into the upper-left corner of the net.

Limestone finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots. The Saints also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Julia Wells paced the Lady Hurricanes with three shots while Milner and Kaylee Krohn each finished with two.

Bahri pulled down five saves. Mariette Martinez and Tori Waddell combined for three stops for Limestone.

Southwestern returns to the pitch on Friday for a 1 p.m. match against UNC Pembroke at Hurricane Field.
