GSW Comes Up Short Against Night Hawks

AMERICUS - Sometimes one bounce is the difference between winning and losing. For the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, a ricochet of the post proved costly as GSW lost 1-0 to Thomas University (Ga.) at Hurricane Field.

Jodi Wright drilled the game winner for TU in the 50th minute when she punched in Jenny Hernandez's shot that had caromed off the near post.

GSW lost its third-straight match and falls to 1-3 while Thomas improves to 5-0 overall. The Night Hawks now lead the all-time series, 1-6-1, with the Lady 'Canes lone victory coming in 2007.

Thomas finished with a slim 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Night Hawks also held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Kristi Sheridan paced the Lady Hurricanes with two shots on goal while junior Julia Wells added one.

Freshman goalkeeper Macauly Basham made her first collegiate start and stopped three for GSW in one half of action. Jordyn Birchett played the final 45 minutes. The only shot on goal she faced was the poke from Wright. Deanna Rivet made three saves for TU.

Southwestern wraps up a four-match homestand on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. tilt against Brewton-Parker.
