AMERICUS - With her back to the goal, and a draw with Brewton-Parker only moments away, senior Ally Canganelli found a way to lead the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory on Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Canganelli took a deflected ball off a corner from Katie Dugan and flicked it over her right shoulder past a stunned BPC defense for the game-winner. The collective pause from shock and amazement on the GSW side quickly turned into celebration as the Lady Hurricanes picked up their second win of 2012.

GSW improves to 2-3 overall while the Barons fall to 0-6-1. BPC leads the all-time series, 4-3, but the Lady 'Canes have now won the last two meetings.

Mallory Hawkes gave GSW the early lead when she scored at the 37:34 mark.

The Barons tied the match in the opening moments of the second half when a header from Catherine Vare found the back of the net in the 48th minute.

GSW stayed on the attack, but was unable to break the Barons defense until Canganelli's late heroics. 

The numbers from the match were lopsided in favor of GSW as the Lady 'Canes outshot BPC, 26-4, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Julia Wells led Southwestern's offensive barrage with eight shots. Heather Thoele rifled off five.

Starting goalkeeper Macauly Basham made two saves for GSW in 75 minutes of action. Jordyn Birchett played the final 32:54. Kelsey Rozier started between the pipes for BPC and saved seven while Teylor Alley played the final 23:28 and stopped three before allowing the goal to Canganelli.

Southwestern hits the road for three matches beginning with a 1 p.m. contest in Greenwood, S.C. on Saturday against Lander.
