GSW Weathers Storm But Not Tritons

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team was able to withstand a two-hour, 11-minute battle with Mother Nature in the form of a weather delay Thursday evening, but had no answer for Eckerd College as the Tritons rolled to a 6-0 victory in the season opener.

Michelle Spesshardt, Devon Morse and Arie Anahory took turns scoring consecutive goals as Eckerd fired 31 shots in the match with 15 coming on goal.

GSW trailed 4-0 at the half before Anahory rounded out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes.

Eckerd posted a 14-0 corner kick advantage and held the Lady Hurricanes to one shot in the contest.

Elyse Gowan saved nine for GSW.

Southwestern returns to action 11 a.m. Saturday at No. 8 Tampa.
