Full Day Of Fun

Full Day Of Fun

AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team put in a full day on Tuesday, on the eve of the first day of classes for the 2014-15 academic year. From reading to school children, to winning a scrimmage match, to completing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the Lady Hurricanes made the most of their opportunities.

All 25 Lady 'Canes kicked off their morning by heading over to Southland Academy to read to young students. The women spent over an hour with K5, 1st and 3rd-grade classes flipping through pages of their favorite childhood books. The ladies used this time away from the field to unwind and have fun by reminiscing their early days in the classroom.

In the afternoon the ladies had to go from reading books to reading opponents as the women had their first match of pre-season verse Faulkner University. In the first half, freshmen Haley Oubre and Neeli Fortson scored the first two goals of the fall. In the second half, transfer Tara Harrison scored the third goal for GSW to complete the 3-0 victory. Goalkeepers Emily Jones, Chelsee Wright and Elyse Gowen combined for the shutout.

After their victory the ladies had one more challenge. This past Saturday the GSW Women's softball team challenged the soccer team to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. After playing in the 90 degree weather the ladies gladly took the ice water splash. In return they challenged the GSW men's basketball team, tennis teams and the Coker College women's soccer team.
