Lady 'Canes Struggle In Opener

AMERICUS - Georgia Southwestern allowed three goals in the opening 18 minutes to Eckerd College on Friday afternoon and suffered an 8-0 defeat in non-conference women's soccer action. It was the season opener for both schools.

Arie Anahory led the Tritons' attack with a pair of goals and three assists in the contest. Teammate Michelle Spesshardt added two scores.

Eckerd wasted little time taking the lead as Shannon Estes-Larkin scored at the 5:21 mark.

GSW surrendered four goals in each half, with the final two scores coming from Spesshardt in the 77th and 81st minutes.

Eckerd controlled shots on goal (29-0) and corner kicks (9-1).

Sophomore Chelsee Wright saved 12 shots during her 62 minutes between the pipes for GSW. Freshman Emily Jones stopped nine over the final 28 minutes.

Southwestern entertains Spring Hill College on Sunday at noon.
