Lady Canes Toughen Up In Second Half

AMERICUS- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team took on the West Alabama Tigers this afternoon during the Staff/Faculty appreciation game.

West Alabama's Lady Tigers took an early lead scoring their first goal five minutes into the game from in front of the net. Freshman Emily Jones helped the Lady Canes defense by making a swift save and catching the rebound mere seconds later. The Lady Tigers kept peppering the net until they finally got a shot in scoring their second goal at the 26:52 mark. West Alabama scored one more time in the first half at the 35:42 mark.

Neeli Fortson attempted to put a point on the board for GSW with a header that went wide. Colleen Livings also attempted a shot which was blocked and Kristi Sheridan with six seconds left booted the ball past the Tigers but it went wide.

The second half proved to be more of a fight for the Lady Canes. In the first minute GSW had a team save and a save from Emily Jones. The Lady Canes defense played tough and took on four more shots before one found its way into the goal making the score 4-0 at the 66:28 mark.

With twenty-five minutes left both teams left it all out on the field. GSW's Tara Harrison took a shot at the net that was saved. The Lady Canes defense kept the Lady Tigers from another goal with quick feet and fast reactions until the half ended.

West Alabama recorded 23 shots to GSW's 4, while GSW's Emily Jones had 8 saves compared to The Lady Tigers Anna Eastis of 1.

The Lady Canes are on the road this Saturday September 27 to face Converse College at 6PM.
