Tigers Tear Past Lady 'Canes

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season in a 10-0 defeat to West Alabama Monday night at Tiger Stadium.

Beth Preston scored the Tigers first goal three minutes into the game. Five minutes later Katy Morris made the tigers second goal and scored again in the 14th minute. Preston scored the fourth goal at the 20:30 mark and Kristen Riley put the fifth goal with an assist by Morris to lead at the half.

Morris wasted no time in the second half scoring at the 47:33 mark and again two minutes later to give UWA a 7-0 lead. The Tigers scored three more goals to take the 10-0 win.

UWA outshot GSW 32-4 with 24 shots being on goal. The Tigers had 10 corner kicks compared to GSW's one.

The Lady 'Canes keepers faced 24 shots and totalled 13 saves. Elyse Gowen started between the pipes for GSW and faced 11 shots, allowing five goals and making six saves. Chelsee Wright had 11 shots, saved seven and allowed four goals. Emily Jones made one save and allowed one goal.

Mercedes Benitez and Neeli Fortson both had a shot on goal for GSW.

The Lady 'Canes travel to Greenville, S.C. Wednesday to play North Greenville University at 5:30 p.m.
