No. 17 Columbus State Tops Lady 'Canes

AMERICUS, Ga.- The 17th-ranked NCAA Division II women's soccer team Columbus State scored five goals in the first half on Tuesday evening at Hurricane Field to take a 7-0 win against Georgia Southwestern.

The Lady 'Canes drop to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the Peach Belt Conference while Columbus State improves to 8-2-1 and 4-0 in the PBC.

The Cougars first goal came two minutes into the game and the second just three minutes later. The next thee were scored by Nicole Corcione at the 10, 20 and 35-minute marks to give her a hat-trick.

The Lady 'Canes stepped it up in the second half allowing only two goals against.

Elyse Gowen (1-5) took on 17 shots and saved 10 in her 57 minutes between the pipes. Chelsee Wright played the remaining 32:43 minutes and made nine saves.

GSW is on the road Saturday to face the No. 2-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks at 5:00 p.m.
