Wolves Wound Lady 'Canes Record

AMERICUS, Ga.- The Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team lost their home opener 4-0 on Saturday against the University of West Georgia at Hurricane Field.

GSW dropped to 2-1 while UWG improved their record to 3-1.

UWG's Kelly Geary scored the Wolves first two goals in the 15th and 27th minute of the game both unassisted.

The first goal came after Geary took a corner kick then made her way back into the box to score off a wide shot from Amia Canada. The second goal was off a penalty kick.

The Wolves third goal came at the 58th minute when Julia Atenza booted it to the top corner, right out of the keepers reach. Their fourth goal was in the 79th minute when Parke Heissenbuttel scored off her own rebound.

The Lady 'Canes picked up their momentum in the second half only allowing the Wolves to have 13 shots compared to the 26 they had in the first half.

Keeper Elyse Gowen (2-1) turned away 13 shots in the 90 minutes she played.

GSW had 9 shots, one on goal. Khayla Owens had three shots and Emily Blecha had the shot on goal.

The Lady 'Canes are home on Wednesday to host Middle Georgia State in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
