UNC Pembroke Outshoots GSW To 1-0 Victory

PEMBROKE, N.C. -- An early morning game might have set the Georgia Southwestern women's soccer team back as they dropped a close match to UNC Pembroke by score of 1-0 at Lumbee-River EMC Stadium.

The Lady Hurricanes were only able to get off four shots on the early, 11 a.m. start as they were outshot, 23-4.

In the 71st minute, a header by UNC Pembroke's (11-3, 5-2 PBC) Maya Grimes put them on the board with the lone score of the game as that proved all they needed to win. The Braves were led by Paula Valbuena, who had five shots with two landing on goal. Both Grimes and Zion Sellers also had four shots each.

GSW (3-11-1, 0-8 PBC) was led by Alison Rugel and Ashlyn Baker, who had one shot on goal a piece. Leila Hamed and Payton Johnson also took shots for the Lady Hurricanes.

The Braves led in all categories as they finished the day with 23 shots, landing 10 on goal. They also had a 15-1 advantage with corner kicks as the ball was played primarily on GSW side with Hannah Morrone picking up nine saves.

Up Next: The Lady Hurricanes will host their last home game of the season as they will invite Columbus St. to Americus for a midweek game on Wednesday, Oct. 30 for a 7 p.m. match start.
