No. 9 Lynn holds off 'Canes late surge

No. 9-ranked Lynn University built a 7-0 lead and held on to beat Georgia Southwestern, 8-5, Thursday afternoon at Hurricane Field.

Lynn outhit GSW 14-6 led by Jason Ten Eyck's and Chad Crowe's three hits apiece as the Fighting Knights improved to 6-0 on the season.

Jared Allen scored two runs and drove in two for the Hurricanes (3-5).

Lynn struck first with two runs in the opening frame, another in the third and then three in the fourth off an Einar Atencio home run.

GSW didn't have a hit until the sixth inning. The Hurricanes finally scored on a Noble Coley RBI-single to center field and a Lynn error. GSW stranded nine runners in the game with the bases loaded in the sixth and two in the eighth and ninth innings.

Daniel Stokes added a RBI-single in the eighth, and Allen's double finished the scoring.

The Hurricanes used five pitchers in the game. Ryan Lackey lasted three-plus innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Tyler Daniel. Zack Whitman and R.M. Cozza all pitched 1.2 innings, and Bud Fuller completed the ninth sending down all three batters.

Kevin Rickert pitched six innings allowing one run on two hits in picking up the win as Evan Ellison recorded his third save.

The Hurricanes start a three-game weekend series with Tusculum on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
